DC Fandome Shows Off Future of DCCU

I’ll be honest, I’ve been Captain Marvel (pun absolutely intended) for a long, long time. Which was why, initially, I wasn’t that excited about the DC Fandome. I mean, I had never watched it before and didn’t plan to watch it this weekend.

That was until I saw the teaser for the official trailer for The Batman. I switched gears, sat down, and watched.

I think this may have made me a turncoat. A traitor. At the very least, I’m a double-agent: a man with no real allegiance to anything anymore. Who am I? What monster have I become? Am I this easily bought and sold to the highest bidder?

Yes. Yes, I am.

Here are the most exciting things I saw from DC Fandome this year!

Peacemaker Trailer

I wasn’t expecting to like this trailer as much as I did, but then again, The Suicide Squad also surprised me. James Gunn seems to be bringing equal parts The Office and The Tick into a bloody mess of a massacre.

When I saw that we’ll even be tackling Peacemaker’s daddy issues, seeing where he lives, building the relationship with the rest of his handlers, it just all clicked so well with me.

I can’t wait.

Superman & Lois Exclusive Look

The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve come to like Superman. It’s weird, because I LOVED Batman for so long. But I think I was Bat-exhausted for a minute or two there. And something about Superman’s refusal to become anything less than that Big Blue Boy Scout, especially now, seems like exactly what I need to hear and see.

So when I saw the pilot for this show on the CW, and saw him and his teenage kids, and his son having an anxiety disorder, and he’s STILL trying to be that better person and be that better father, I literally cried.

And the actors on this show come across like a real family. If you haven’t seen it yet, please check this out. I hope it makes you excited for the next season as I’ve become.

Batman: Caped Crusader

I geeked out when I saw Bruce Timm was once again involved producing my favorite Dark Knight. Time and time again, Kevin Conroy has knocked it out of the park and will always be MY personal Batman. He was the very first Batman I ever saw, just like Mark Hamill was my first Joker. Seeing cast and crew from Batman: The Animated Series come back in anything is always a treat.

The fact that they’re going Year One-ish is going to be really cool! I don’t get as excited as some people might when Abrams is involved, but I know that means the budget and push is going to be there to (hopefully) make this the Noir Batman that Bruce Timm truly wanted to make.

Catwoman: Hunted Trailer

There was a lot, A LOT of Batman and Gotham-themed stuff prior to the drop of The Batman trailer, and I can see why. For the longest time, Warner Bros. Batman films have consistently taken the cake, the kudos, and the critical accolades. That universe is central to the reshaping of the DCCU, and the fact that they aren’t skimping on the animated content is SO NICE.

This film sees Catwoman front and center with Batwoman helping her take out the trash. It has this 1960s spy film vibe, almost like In Like Flint or the original Ocean’s Eleven with Sinatra. The off-handed one-liners, the Odd Couple dynamic between the two, and the fantastic voice-over cast will have me coming back to see this.

Black Adam Trailer

WHOA! Talk about an opening worthy of a Ridley Scott film. The Rock’s debut as the most insanely powerful supervillain was worth the wait. It reminded me that, while Mr. Johnson has become quite the hero, his first major role was the Scorpion King in the Brendan Fraser Mummy franchise. And it’s got those vibes too!

I won’t ruin it for you. But if you thought meeting the Maker in Prometheus was bad…yeah this one’s pretty bad too.

The Rock is definitely going to be a wrecking ball in this movie.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom: Behind the Scenes

I love Jason Mamoa. He is the only reason why I ever cared about Aquaman and Atlantis or any of it. He’s the Thor of this whole thing! And he made him like a dirty, grungy metal dude who can breathe underwater and command killer whales and sharks.

All the yes’s.

It looks like they’re having a blast making this movie and that it’ll be just as much popcorn-popping summer fun as the last film. Check it out and tell me you don’t love him. I dare you. He’s a treasure. He’s also Catwoman’s stepdad?!

The Flash Sneak Preview

This film is DC’s quite predictable answer to all of the problems they’ve had: IT’S A MULTIVERSE Y’ALL! This is the Spider-Man: No Way Home storyline of DC: Flashpoint. In it, Barry Allen stops a pivotal moment in his life from happening, causing him to be happy but also causing a butterfly effect of destruction. Because when you can move so fast you can move spacetime, you’re going to screw a lot of stuff up…

This storyline also rebooted DC comics in general with “The New 52.” This streamlined everything that became the prime universe but also made 52 unique Earths where all of these crazy characters can reside and interact without necessarily having to reboot every 10-15 years.

I don’t really like this Flash, but I’ll be going for the worldbuilding and MICHAEL F******* KEATON. Sorry, I just get really excited when I think of him in that cowl again.

The Batman Official Trailer

This was what I came to see – the answer Warner Bros. needed to the Nolan-sized hole in their hearts / wallets, and I am 1000% in! Shut up, take my money! Everyone is killing it in this.

Nothing I can say, nothing I can write, nothing I could make up about this trailer will suffice. This is everything I’ve wanted. This is the World’s Greatest Detective. This is angry Bruce. This is a guy trying to figure out how to control himself on the knife’s edge of criminality and not become The Punisher or worse.

And Paul Dano’s Riddler really seems like a boogeyman. He’s so good in everything. Andy Serkis as Alfred is (chef’s kiss). Zoe Kravitz looks great as Catwoman.
