EVERY Easter egg in Thor: Love & Thunder Teaser (Coming Soon)

Not Every God Has a Plan

Hey everybody, Pete here with a new series for Dork Daily called Coming Soon, where I watch trailers for upcoming movies and find every detail I can for you! And the trailer everyone’s talking about right now is the official teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor is on a quest of peace and self-discovery, as he tries to move on from the events of the Infinity Saga and identify as something other than The God of Thunder. This leads him on a Ragnarok-esque journey through the stars as we’re once again in the capable, loving, and surprisingly supple hands of Taika Waitiki.

It’s a teaser so there’s not a ton to see, but it’s also the closest we’ve been to a physical release date in a long, long time. But we still have plenty of time to appreciate the Marvel Movie Gods have gifted upon us mere mortals of Midgard.

Let’s go!

WE FINALLY HAVE THE HELMET!!

So we open with Thor running through the woods of Asgard and growing into the man we’ve come to know and love. And he’s talking a lot about how much of a warrior he was. But now he wants to be a man of peace, as we see when we transition to a meditative pose under a cherry blossom-like tree after burying Stormbringer like a grave marker.

Big Boi Thor Returns!

After the Marvel Studios logo and Guns and Roses kicks in, we see big boi Thor whipping chains next to a gargantuan skeleton as he starts to go through the cutting phase of his bodybuilding regime. He certainly got a good bulking session out of the way. Depression can be a fluffy suit of armor sometimes.

But when he says he wants to choose his own path, we see Thor throw off his cloak to reveal himself cosplaying as Star Lord while standing triumphantly with bullets whizzing by and Peter Quill rolling his eyes so hard that Chris Pratt almost found his sense of humor again.

Korg is back!

But then we see the guardians leave thor behind with Korg because, at this point you can’t have thor without a little Korg. And Guns and Roses starts singing about childhood memories as we go from an asgard looking dock to some floating islands and we see our hero now trying to be a kickass pirate.

I’m hoping for at least one nod to Our Flag Means Death in this part of the film because Taika Waitiki’s new pirate themed show, which is similar to What We Do In the Shadows, would be super great to reference right here.

Who is this blue-haired pirate?!

We travel across a rainbow bridge, at least it appears that way, before a bunch of objects fly together to create a lightning bolt in the hands of someone who looks like Zues. And after we get to the next title card, we see that the tagline is, “Not every god has a plan.” We then transition to a shot that went viral on social media: Thor and Korg looking at the frozen corpse of a dead behemoth.

Zues, King of the Gods (of Greece)!

This is because it’s a direct panel from Thor: God of Thunder Vol. 1 #3. This was done by artist Esad Ribic and may also indicate the kinds of comics we’ll be drawing from for this story, even if it’s just artistically.

This behemoth’s name was Falligar, and at one point it was one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Here’s the quote from the panel:

“Falligar the Behemoth. A Patron God of the Galactic Frontier. Champion of the tournament of immortals for five centuries straight. They say he wrestled black holes just for fun. I last saw him barely a hundred years ago. We passed one another in the spaceways and waved.”

This almost looks hand drawn in the trailer!

In the trailer, Thor seems shocked to see the rotted corpse frozen on the planet, and since it’s a direct rip from the comic, it’s safe to say we’ll be having a similar conversation with Korg here.

We then fade through different scenes as Peter Quill tells Thor that whenever he feels lost he just needs to look into the eyes of the people that he loves. We see Valkyrie trying to rule New Asgard before swinging back to our Olympus inspired planet.

Star Lord looks at the Guardians wistfully while Thor tries to creepily stare into his eyes at the tail end of his speech. Quill is quick to bat Thor’s advances away, who tries to coyly pretend he was just trying to listen with more eye contact.

I hope we hear some Iron Maiden on this soundtrack!

We get our Title Card in all of its late 80s, early 90s glory before we cut to a fused together Mjlornir flying through the air and being caught, but we get to Thor and see he’s not grabbing it.

He seems to be dressed in more traditional nordic fare before cutting to Jane taking up the mantle as Thor, winged helmet and all, surrounded by a riot and burned out cars. Also, she’s super buff. Like, she could kill me with a word.

I love all of this!

We end with the July 2022 end plate which means we don’t have much longer to wait. And we’re getting into the heated summer season, with major releases coming out that have been delayed, sometimes, for years. It’s going to be a good summer to be at the movies.

See you next time.
