As we all know, Disney+ is set to debut in November, and among the many original programs, they will include a slew of MCU based TV series. They’ve announced a few, but so far they all deal with primary characters throughout the franchise. But what about the far more interesting side characters that we didn’t get to spend too much time with across multiple films? Here are our pitches for the characters who deserve their own spinoffs on the new streaming service. Go ahead and use these ideas Disney, free of charge!
Shuri
Elevator Pitch: Shuri’s Science Center teaches children (and adults) how to do awesome scientific experiments and build new inventions using vibranium. The ending of Black Panther saw Shuri being put in charge of a Scientific Outreach program in California, and this would be a perfect place to set the series. We could get more time to develop her character and watch her grow from being the sarcastic little sister to the king into a wise mentor to the youth of the city.
The Grandmaster
Elevator Pitch: Sakaar and Recreation would be a mockumentary style comedy starring Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, rebuilding Sakaar into a better planet with Korg and the other revolutionaries after their “tie”. Let’s be honest, Goldblum was one of the best parts of Ragnarok and any excuse to get more screen time with his character would be well worth it, especially if Taika Waititi stayed on as showrunner!
Red Skull
Elevator Pitch: Red Skull Redemption would pick up with Red Skull shortly after the events of Infinity War, as he travels the galaxy, attempting to redeem himself and find a new place where he fits in. For years, his character was one filled with mystery and he remains probably the biggest surprise in Infinity War, a film filled with twists and turns. And his brief appearance there showed a character humbled by 70+ years of isolation and watching others try to possess a great power that he never could. There’s honestly a lot that could be done with that!
Odin
Elevator Pitch: The Conquerors would be a prequel recounting the brutal and bloody struggles of Odin, Hela, and the Asgardian army taking over the nine realms and building their vast empire. We hear stories about the bloodshed upon which the kingdom was built, and this would be a great chance to watch Odin grow from a power-hungry warlord into the reserved and wise king we later see. It could also vindicate a popular fan theory and show Odin attempting to collect all the Infinity Stones, only to fail to obtain the Soul Stone because he’s unwilling to sacrifice Hela for it.
Harley Keener
Elevator Pitch: Revenge of the Tech Nerds would continue with Harley after Tony gifted him a brand new lab filled with advanced technology at the end of Iron Man 3. We would see him use his inventions to settle scores with bullies, and try to help his small Tennessee town, complete with hilarious mishaps and hijinks. His character was one of the unsung heroes in the final chapter of the Iron Man trilogy and he deserves a bit more focus after being ultimately forgotten about!
Wong
Elevator Pitch: The Wizard of Waverly Station sees Wong going to the famous Waverly Sub Station Deli, only to find that his detachment from the material results in him not being able to purchase lunch. So he gets a job there to earn some money. In typical workplace comedy fashion, he makes friends and enemies with coworkers and customers, and finds that his penchant for ancient magic isn’t as useful as he would hope when making sandwiches quickly for demanding customers.
Luis
Elevator Pitch: Small Size Security shows Luis, along with Kurt and Dave utilizing shrinking technology from Hank Pym, and using it for their security company. We then see them go on Shark Tank and eventually team up with Mark Cuban in order to take the tech world by storm! This trio of characters were always the most entertaining part of the Ant-Man films, and it would be incredibly fun to see what they’re up to while Scott is busy helping the Avengers.
Some of these would no doubt be hilarious, others legitimately compelling. The point is Disney+ will be an excellent source to promote ideas and stories that don’t have to be afraid to connect to the film series like the TV exploits of the past have been. It’s a real chance for Disney to honor all of Marvel, even the smaller characters we didn’t think would be worthy of their own solo films!
